The Kingdoms of Telgard: An out of character update
- by CD Steve

Hello again, everyone!

Just wanted to let you know about some of the updates that have been going on lately for the Kingdoms of Telgard.  There have been a number of changes recently, and I thought you might like to hear them.

First of all, in relations to the various discrepancies on weapons, I've recently done an update on the Weapons skills.  The biggest change you'll be able to see is that each individual weapon skill no longer
has a requirement for strength or dexterity in order to be able to wield it beyond novice.  For instance, earlier one had to have a strength of 4 to be able to pass beyond Novice in Claymore.  Now that restriction is gone.  However, I wish to advise you that there will still be common-sense limitations...it would be impossible for a Delfae to wield a claymore, which weighs more than he does, for instance, and in the same way, a minotaur could not wield an assassin's darts with its clumsy hands.   The requirements for Expert in any weapon skill are still the same, however; one must have a 4 in the associated stat  and a 3 in the other physical stat associated with weapons--for instance, Martial Artists must have a 4 in
Dexterity (which is the stat associated with Martial Arts) and a 3 in Strength, whereas a Claymore-user must have 4 in Strength and 3 in Dexterity to achieve expert.

In addition, I have clarified the CDs' position on dual-weapon proficiencies.  The only weapon skill allowing the wielding of two weapons at once is that of the Rapier with the Main-gauche,  and the guidelines for that have been outlined clearly within the description of the skill.  It is not otherwise
possible to learn to wield two weapons with any degree of proficiency.

Second of all, I wish to apologize for the delays in replying for character submissions; I've been having problems with my yahoo account.  It got to the point that I would send them using a different account. However, the problem seems to have been resolved, so there should be no further delays in filling character applications.

The Credits section has also been updated, so that those who have helped create the game can receive their full credit.  I've received a couple of emails from those wishing to contribute their art, including a request for a description of a Legendary Character.  These submissions are still entirely welcome, and
again, any wishing to contribute their art can email them to either CD.  Please don't forget to sign your work to be sure you receive full credit; we can't feature any work without a signature without infringing on copyright law.

While Lirynn still lacks a KM, GM Jonathon and GM Cabal have done an admirable job in relieving the congestion there.  In Korresh, KM Xann has had to retire from moderating, though he will continue to develop kingdom-wide plots and the Kingdom in general.  As always, you may feel free to fill out the Moderator Application Form, a link to which can be found in this issue of the Tribune as well as on the main Forum Boards.  Again, you will not have to give up your character(s) to moderate, though of course, your character cannot be in any place you moderate.   More players have been traveling to our less congested areas such as Hasst and Ta'ess and have been finding the moderators there most welcoming.

The holidays are coming and many of our moderators will be going on vacation, as well as many of our players.  We won't be able to get replacements for every moderator on vacation, and so necessarily, those areas whose moderators will be going on vacation will be on hold.  There is currently discussion in the Council as to whether those moderators who remain would be able to put on a temporary quest, but that has not been decided and will rely on whether there is a great deal of interest from players.   Moderators who will be going on vacation will post an OOC topic on their boards to let their players know of their plans.

The (Infamous) Ball
- by Rumier Chisme

Well, my people, I'm  back. The ball hosted by Lady Syrella Darshallon, at the Gilded Rose establishment, was a complete success. Those wives smart enough went with  their husbands. Otherwise, mistresses made company to their aristocrat protectors; the social ranks never mixed up, and the two groups competed to be suitably dressed in sparkling jewels. The Jewelers' Guild reports that most gems and semiprecious stones are unavailable, and that shipments are on their way from the dwarven mines to Tegn.

Fashion, yes. As I predicted, the youngsters  followed the Emperor's trend, and desert fashion was everywhere. That meant  daring, and I mean daring costumes were worn by the  demimondaines, or mistresses, involving gauzy fabrics, bare navels and scanty torso tops, after harem fashions. Some noble ladies refused to be conservative, and showed
their charms, too. The daring lady prize went to Lady Syrella herself, while the most sought after chieftain was Lord Dariel, Lieutenant of the Home Guard and  imperial cousin to boot. His six feet five inches height, combined with a quick wit and a muscled body, imparted elegance to the rich desert robes and long headdress that he wore. The outer robe was literally sewn with sapphires, diamonds and opals in strange patterns, which gossip said had magical meanings. Is everyone an aspiring mage these days? Shades of the gods!  Milord Dariel has a definite physical presence  that made
the ladies swoon and his fellow nobles frown. I believe that Lord  Dariel has about four or five duels to answer as a consequence of the ball.

A wise word to those who are so blatantly jealous; he's a Lieutenant of the Home Guard!!!  That means you are done
for: make your last will, and pray he feels generous to do away with first blood only. I will chronicle any pompous funeral if needed, but unless it was a wife, life should be dearer. And I know for certain the demi-mondaines are behind this, no spouses offended. If they walked away from your protection, let them go. Replace your mistress and end this
very uncivilized way of solving your insecurity problems. The Kingdom falls apart, and our nobles fight for bought pleasure! The descendants of ancient houses are not exactly holding up their ancestors' reputation as heroes. As I am starting to sound like a priest, I will end this before I lose my Epicurean ways. Shanai, friends.

This advertisement will hopefully appear soon on the public boards of Outer Maston. I mean to do you expect one lone elf to explore a dungeon alone. Unfortunately Outer Maston can be a scary place what with the ongoing slave rebellion, the street riots, the imperial guard massacring everybody and the undead stalking the city. That's why it needs more adventurers so I can get all that treasure that's just lying around under-

*cough, cough*

Please disregard the previous sentences. That's why Outer Maston needs more heroes. I mean, can you imagine what you can do with all that treasure and magic? For example you could support a rebel-

*hack*, *cough*

Sorry coming down with something. Let's just say that I'm an elf with big dreams, but who needs a few good heroes to make her dreams happen. Thank you for letting me advertise in the Telgard Tribune.

An Important Announcement:

"I, Jehanelin the Elf am in search of brave heroes who will join me in ridding Maston of the horrors of Maston's Under City, the vast, ancient, magical and treasure-filled city of 'Tir 'La."

"That's right, vast treasures await bold heroes such as yourself. Come to OUTER MASTON
and look for me at Dawn's Place. Stop those vile, undead Underpeople from nightly feeding on the young children of Maston."

Ohhhhh......

Jingle gobs, jingle gobs, jingle all the way
Oh what fun it is to flee in a one treeg open sleigh

Dashing through the Green
On a one treeg open sleigh
Nervous as we go
'don't smash us Oaf' we pray

Running for our lives
death hot on our trail
'don't spill our guts you ugly Oaf
'eat an elf or two' we wail

Ohhhhhhh....
