Common game related questions

Kingdoms of Telgard has come  a long way since our game started its humble beginnings in March of this year. As we continue to grow, more questions come up from both new and veteran players/moderators. The following includes a few that come up most often. To have your question answered in the next Telgard Tribune,  send a message to MY EMAIL.

  • Question: How can I advance my character faster? It seems to take a long time.

Answer: Play by post role-playing does take  a lot of time, but that's part of the fun! If your primary goal is for your character gain in power as quickly as possible,  my suggestion is that you keep things simple. Inform your moderator of your primary goal and a course will be set to get you there. Moderators try to keep things interesting, and thus side plots and mini adventures are part of the game.  If you want a more direct route, just ask. Don't expect advances to be handed to you too easily, however. Fast tracking to the top has its own hazards. *grin*

  • Question: I just found out my character can't read or write, and I want to learn the skill.  What can I do?

Answer: A common question, and it has an easy answer! Other than magic talents which have to be chosen during character creation, all other skills may be learned through role-playing. So, if you find yourself wanting your character to learn to read and write, just make it known to your moderator and a story line will be created to make it possible.

  • Question: I have this player who always responds to my long posts with only one or two sentences.  I keep trying to bring them to make longer posts, but they keep missing the point.  It's really hard to GM someone who doesn't give you anything to work with.  Help!

Answer: This one comes up all the time. What I suggest to any moderator who is having this problem is to first send an ooc message to the player, nicely explaining that a more interesting story can be developed if the moderator knows what the players goals are. Some people just need a little nudge and others stall because they are afraid of wryming. If  an email doesn't work, create a situation where the character will suffer serious injury if he/she doesn't jump into action and provide a detailed explanation of their next move. *wink*
