The "Pearl of the desert", as Ta'ess is also called, is located
somewhere on the way between the Viper Pass and Hasst. Caravans usually
stop by to fill up their water and food supplies before they head off
for the "Gateway to Tahnn", Naczach'sh. A city afoot the mountains
leading to Garr and Korresh. They also stop to resupply before heading
to the "Jewel of the desert," Hasst. The capital city of Tahnn, located
on the shores of the Telgard Sea.
Ta'ess is a large greatly diversified city. From the many races that
call it home, to the varied businesses located there. One can find most
anything in this sprawling city, thats if you know where to look. The
buildings are made of sandstone. They are built up orderly just like
everywhere where the Ss'tiss have ever settled down. Broad, straight
streets dominate the picture. Many Inns and taverns just like gambling
dens concentrate on areas around the Great Bazaar and other smaller
market places.
The government district in the northern part of the city is home to the
Council Building, the Guard Headquarters, the Library of Light, and the
Prison of Ta'ess. The city its self is surrounded by a twelve foot
sandstone wall. There are several watchtowers spread about. So the
Ss'tiss can keep an eye on things both inside, and outside of Ta'ess.
Two gates allow entry into Ta'ess, one in the west, and one in the east
of the city.

The Oasis proper sits just outside of the city walls. It is ringed by
the farms that use its life giving water, to help feed the people of
Ta'ess. It is guarded by several watch towers. There are seven major
types of farms here. A Skssar farm, a Thakshh farm, a Thass'ylth farm, a Hrshhul farm, a Natti farm, a Yss'than and a Fessal farm. To a lesser
degree Sha'kth, and Zhass berries are also grown here.
Passing caravans coming from Naczach'sh usually arrive at the West Gate. While Caravans from Hasst mostly use the East Gate. There is a
caravanserai at each gate, with fairly small buildings offering shelter
to the caravan leaders and their crew only. Their camels, horses or
mules must be left outside, in one of the fenced areas to the sides of
the building. Anyone willing to offer his goods in Ta'ess. Can either
let his camels carry the goods to the largest market place in Ta'ess the Great Bazaar, or just look out for hirelings that wait around the Gates at all times of the day, but never at night.
A small Misharr Quarter, secluded from the rest of the city, can be
found in the southwest of Ta'ess. Here they have their own shops, inns,
taverns, healers and such. Their houses rarely see any other Ss'tiss
than the passing guards. The main Ss'tiss District is located in the
northeast of Ta'ess. There really is not a foreign district in Ta'ess.
The people of other races tend to settle were they can find room.
Attitude towards people from other races:
Most foreigners calling Ta'ess their home are merchants and travellers
who found the oasis a good place for settling down. Since there are so
many foreigners passing by and through the city day by day the Ss'tiss
are used to seeing people of other races all the time. So here in Ta'ess the Ss'tiss and Misharr are more excepting of other races. However the Ss'tiss leave no doubt as to who is in charge.
Quite a few of the Ss'tiss living here have learnt at least some of the
Human tongue, and a couple even learnt to pronounce the dwarven tongue.
Many of them however are too proud to even attempt learning other
languages. Since Tahnn is their homeland they expect foreigners,
travellers, as well as merchants, to learn their tongue. The Ss'tiss
usually don't care about all the foreigners wandering throught he
streets and at the markets becaused they're used to them.
They are however concerned about the slum quarter that is slowly
growing at the southeastern end of the city. The beggars and thieves
many of them Humans living there, seem to pester the streets of the
oasis. The guards are having a hard time get that under control. Due
mostly to the mass of people coming in and passing through, that the
caravans bring to Ta'ess from both Hasst and Korresh.
FARMS
One of the only Hrshhul farms in Tahnn, is here in Ta'ess. A net system
that runs into the Oasis keeps the Hrshhul from escaping. They are
harvested for their meat, as well as their shells. Their meat is
considered a delicacy both in the eyes of the Ss'tiss and the Misharr.
Their shells are crafted into decorative bowls and platters.
A Yss'than farm is here. The small beasts are bred and harvested, for
their tender meat and soft pelts. Waterskins and pouches are some of the items made from their skin.
A small Fessal herd is maintained at the Oasis. Their meat is prime and
their skin worked into fine leather. The Misharr also use their wool to
make blankets and rugs of unmatched craftsmanship.
The Thakshh that grows naturally at Oasis in Tahnn, has been lent a
helping hand in Ta'ess. It produces the largest yield of any of the
plants farmed here. The reed like plant is not only used to feed the
animals farmed here, it is also used in soups and stews for the people
of Ta'ess.
Natti is also farmed here in good numbers. It is harvested for it juicy
meat and its flowers. The flowers are used by healers to help control
fevers.
A Skssar farm is also located here. The palms are growed for the Skssar
nut. A favored form of refreshment for the Tahhn natives. The palms here are very healthy due to the abundant water supply. They are able to produce between four to six a month per palm.
Thass'ylth a type of desert grain is also grown here. It is highly
prized as it is the only grain grown in Tahnn. It is the second most
abundant of the plants grown in Ta'ess. It is used to make all manner of breads, pastries, and meal used to bread meat. It is also shipped to the other cities in Tahnn.
Some Sha'kth and Zhass berries are also growed here. The majority of
these are harvested for making wine. While some are used as a food
source in pastries and pies.
The Yss'than, Hrshhul, and Fessal are mostly fed the Thakshh that grows
abundantly at the farms. The desert grain is too precious to feed it to
these animals tho. It is used for baking bread and pastries. Which the
Human travellers and merchants pay high prices for, since this is almost the only familiar sort of food they're use to from their home Kingdoms.

GOVERNMENT
Ta'ess is ruled by the matriarchal Council of Three. They are the ones
who decide about those criminals, that carried out crimes much more
cruel than the occasional thief robbing a pouch the judge has to care
about. Also they care about taxes, the delegations of other cities
coming from all over the Sarin Desert, any complaints the inhabitants of Ta'ess bring before them, appointing the locale judge, and the captain of the guard. They also have the final word in the direction Ta'ess moves in.
Anyone trying to gain a audience with one of the Matriarchs or all.
Must give a petition to one of their secretaries stating the nature of
why they want the meeting. They will then pass it on to the Ministers of the Matriarchs, and they decide which cases shall be brought before them and which can be taken care about by the judge. If your case goes before the Matriarchs. The Matriarchs will want hear everyone involved first before deciding about the problem. Therefore it might take quite a while till their decision has been made...
