GOBLIN HISTORY:

Goblins were one of the last races to be created, but the distinction did not matter...after the elves, the races appeared very swiftly one after the other. Goblins never really spread beyond the jungles and swamps of Mirg; the cold mountains and relative dryness of the plains and deserts did not agree very well with them. They spread among the Snake Isles as well, and there are some other islands where goblin settlements have been found, but their jungles have always been satisfactory; whatever military incursions the goblins have made on others have almost always been for territory for their growing population, and mass movement to other climes seem to invite large diseases into the settlements...though individuals who travel never have any problem with their health.

The Goblins once had an alliance with the Elves; more so than with any other race. The two countries built a city on their mutual border to emphasize their similarities, and the city was a center for learning and civilization. This was not to last, but it would take some time for the bonds to break down.

The Scourge killed a vast majority of goblins; their magic was the strongest against the Dark Enemy, but Krull spared no expense in ferrying warriors across the Straights to the shores of Korresh, and the goblin army was all that held off the Dark Enemy several times during the Scourge. Their selfless sacrifice is rarely remembered nowadays, and it is a source of great bitterness that this is so. After the Scourge, the schism between the elves and the goblins burst forth in a rage, and the city they had built was sunk under the earth.

Little else of note happened; a hundred years after the Bittering, a plague took down two-thirds of the population. Later, the Kokoralum and the Greegore began assimilating the other tribes, and at the same time the culture in Deeg began producing a large number of Tribeless. Today, the goblins harvest the products and drugs of their jungle and have a thriving trade in hallucinogenics and in gems found in riverbeds.

GOBLIN VARIATIONS:

There are no known variations of goblins, though there are minor differences between tribes, the Tribeless, and those goblins on the Snake Isles.
