ELVEN HISTORY:

Elves were the first race to walk on the face of Telgard, and they consider themselves the Chosen people of Dargotten, and revere Faeterna as the Life-giver. Before the other races existed, elves were able to communicate regularly and directly with the gods, and elven culture flourished and spread over all of Telgard.

With the introduction of the other races--first the dwarves, then the others one by one--the elves at first taught the races some of their knowledge and magic. But it did not take long for the races to begin to spread, and the inevitable clashes that took place causes the first skirmishes of the Race Wars...it is unknown how long the wars lasted.

The final result of the Race Wars was the withdrawal of the elves into Lirynn and the sealing of the borders; those elves who preferred other terrain struggled on but either gave up or were slain for the most part. Some few elves survived outside of Lirynn...Little Lirynn in Kel remained somewhat intact, for example. For centuries, Lirynn did not communicate with any of the other Telgardians, and the other races often believed that elves were pure legend.

It was when one gobin braved the traps and spell-mazes of the borders of Lirynn that the elves first began communication again. The goblins and the elves soon had a flourishing alliance, strengthened by their respect for the natural world and by their extreme similarity--though of course, the elves still believed themselves superior.

Trade caravans began coming out of Lirynn, and the elves relaxed their borders to allow humans to settle in Na'el. On the border of Lirynn and Mirg, the two races created a city where they both lived in harmony.

The Scourge came soon after...and it was here that the elves developed their hatred of magic. In an attempt to discover the means of defeating the Dark Enemy, their queen and king sacrificed themselves by magical means. Their sacrifice was not in vain, but the elves had loved their monarchs such that magic was immediately outlawed with the most extreme punishments allowed assigned to breaches of the law.

A few years later, there came a schism between the goblins and the elves; no one knew how it had happened, but the end result was that a vast and towering hatred built between the two races that stands to this day. The joint city they had built was made ruin, and the only thing that has prevented each race from warring on the other was the protections that still existed along their common border.

The elves closed their borders again for a time, but contact with the other races was maintained, and Na'el is still an open port for the humans and other traders.

ELVEN VARIATIONS:

There are two more variations of elves; the elves of Na'el, which have adopted some of the capitalistic attitudes of the Humans, and the elves of Little Lirynn, which still maintain somewhat of a seige mentality though the village is curiously open to nearly everyone, and have undergone a curious change in their belief that they are superior to all other races.
