THE WATCHER OF TELGARD

This is the story as my mother told me, and her father told her, and his mother told him.

There exists among the Ancient Ones, those who have lived since the Scourge and earlier, one whose name Legend holds as Ish'tah Nai. She is known as the Watcher, for the simple reason that that is exactly what she does.

It is believed she was born Delfae. She was born with the wing-nubs that indicated a Winged One, but they fell off before she reached maturity. This august start, however, was indication of favour of an entirely different nature. Ish'tah Nai had been chosen by the Gods for a purpose.

It was not until the Scourge that that purpose was revealed. Until then, Ish'tah Nai had learned magics in the manner of most of her race, becoming most skilled in the magics of Time that would prove to be of great advantage in her lifelong purpose. When the Scourge came, the Delfae did not march against the Dark Enemy; they could not handle the daylight, and at night, the Dark Enemy's power reigned supreme.

But it was then that the Gods spoke to Ish'tah Nai. None can know what they told her, but she sold off her possessions and disappeared. The gods had completely changed her life; and whether this was a blessing or a curse, none could say.

Her purpose was revealed at the Council of the Races, held after the defeat of the Dark Ones. Her words were grim when she appeared without warning; "I am the Watcher, and I will Watch. The Scourge will come again; not in this lifetime, but in another, and when it happens, the Heroes will be Reborn, and the Kingdoms will weep with joy and with sorrow, knowing what will come. I Watch for the Reborn Ones, and I will watch the Seals, and I will be the Method that the Kindoms will be warned. Warn your children, and your children's children; do not ignore me when I come, for my coming will be to guide those whos deeds must be woven into the web of time. There are many who will share the purpose of bringing forth the Heroes who will in the end, face the Final Battle."

With that, she was gone, her glittering jewel-like eyes flashing in the evening light.

None can say where she is now. It is believed that she was a member of the Wizard's Council, which would mean that there are two Wizards with us still, not only one. Whether she remains in contact with the other Wizard is unknown...all that is known is that she Watches, and measures the history of the Kingdoms of Telgard against the time that the Heroes will come again so that the world will never again be unprepared.
