Nestled at the foot of Mt. Thorogin lies Dirgarr, a bustling trading village situated at the entrance to the Kir Pass. It is a popular trading point for merchants and farmers wishing to sell their products without having to make the arduous and often dangerous journey up the pass to Korgarr.
Key to Kir Pass
Dirgarr has grown from humble village beginnings into a center of trade for Garr. It is quite large, stretching around the base of Mt. Thorogin almost completely. A wall runs halfway around the town in a semi-circle that connects to the mountain. The town itself, if viewed from above, would look like a half-circle, the other half taken up by Mt. Thorogin itself. The gray stone of the wall is melded and expertly crafted, with flowing designs that resemble the rest of dwarven architecture. The ramparts are constructed of tough oak wood, transported up the Gap of Karanzibar from the Dire Woods in northern Garr.
There are two gates set in the walls surrounding the town; the North Gate and the South Gate. Both have guard huts, which are manned at all times. The North gate is the busiest, being the entrance which leads to both Korresh and Korgarr, so the amount of guards there is quite high. The North gate is manned by about twenty dwarf and human guards during the day, and at night is manned by ten. The South gate is one that does not get a great deal of traffic, most being travelers and adventurers either entering or leaving Dirgarr from the wilderness, so there is rarely more than ten guards on it during the day, and only two dwarves and a human during the night.
At the gates, the guards make an attempt to record information from every patron entering or leaving, but most of the time handfuls are missed here and there, so this system has been deemed highly inaccurate. In times past, the gates would be closed throughout the night and into the next morning, but do to the steady growth that has swept through Dirgarr, that custom has been almost entirely discarded. Traders move into and out of Dirgarr at all hours, so keeping such a rule would be detrimental to the town.
The population of Dirgarr is mainly that of the Dwarf and Human races, though it is not uncommon to see a Misharr tracker or inquisitive Elf wandering the streets. It is extremely rare to see Goblins and Ss’tiss in this region, for both find the extreme temperatures quite unbearable. It is rarer still to see a Delfae, though some do come out of the Depths, curious about the world above. Here, these various races all find what they are looking for eventually, be it fame or fortune...or a quick death.
